So, moving into my new house was incredibly awesomely exciting and all, but the downside was that I was completely without Internet and cable TV for TWO WEEKS.
We managed to get a computer set up in the living room, and after a late-night trip to Wal-mart for some speakers (I should make another First World Problems… “My expensive gaming headset only allows one person to hear anything”) we were able to pass the time by watching one of my very favorite TV shows — Star Trek: Voyager.
And let me say here and now, if I ever have a daughter, one day when she’s old enough we will sit down together and watch that series from start to finish, because those are some of the strongest female characters and the most gender-equal setting I’ve ever seen in Sci-fi or fantasy. My own writing included.
I love country music.
There, I said it. I know that makes me really unpopular in the music world. There’s probably not a genre that’s more hated than country. People that say they like any kind of music immediately laugh and say “Not that!” when you suggest country music. It’s a unique genre, and even when it crosses over to pop (Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum) they change bits and pieces to make it more poppy. They swap banjos for guitars, remove fiddles, and autotune voices, because otherwise someone that likes cool pop music might be caught listening to country.
…but meaning to post is pretty useless, all things considered. It doesn’t actually get much posting done 😛 But I’ve accomplished some other things lately, too! Let me demonstrate with this video:
Yup, that’s right, I’m officially a homeowner. Which is pretty freaking cool.
Good morning, lovely dolls 🙂
Yeah, I know, I’ve been out of the posting habit for a week or two – oops. But I’m here this week to make up for it! Interestingly, I came into this morning with absolutely no idea what I was going to blog about, but after sitting in a class I’m taking this morning, I’ve decided to write about language.
What? I’ve made it clear from earlier posts that I’m a bit of a language nerd 😛
O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name,
Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love,
And I’ll no longer be a Capulet.
There is great power held within a name.
Tis but thy name that is my enemy;
Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What’s Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!
I disagree, Juliette. A name is a part of a man, or of a woman. Perhaps intangible, but that doesn’t make it any less real.
