Hello World

Hello, I am Red_Ink_Cat, or Red for short. I wish I could tell you my actual name, but then I would have to kill you – or the men in sunglasses riding around in those neat black vans would.

In actuality, my job requires me to maintain my internet presence as a separate entity from my personal self for protective reasons, but no, my job is not as cool as you think it is. I am an engineer, Summa Cum Laude in Mechanical Engineering from a college in the middle of nowhere (North Dakota if there are any Midwesterners reading). That’s about all I can tell you.

To continue down the path of just how weird I am, I am a woman that is an engineer that is part of a subculture (quick shout out to goth.net). I am a Warhammer 40k wargamer, having avidly collected in excess of 10,000 points of Biel-Tan Craftworld Eldar, started about 1700 points of Masque of the Frozen Stars Harlequins allies, gotten two HQ models for an anticipated start at a fluff-wise homebrewed Ash Wyrms Corsairs ally, and kicked around the idea of starting a Horus Heresy Death Guard army because all the scythes and terminators are just too awesome to resist. I am a Tabletop Role Playing Game [RPG] Game Master, although I prefer either Dungeon Master [DM] or Storyteller since the two systems I run are Dungeons and Dragons [DnD] (currently on Next) and World of Darkness [WoD] (new version first edition because no one that played Old WoD would invite me to games and I bought all of the books before second came out, so I am going to use that awfully expensive investment if it kills me). I am a video gamer, although I will be the first to point out that I fall into neither the casual nor hardcore camp. I prefer RPG videogames, Fallout and Elder Scrolls being some of my favorites, and dabble in a few others as they come out although I also have a long-standing run in Minecraft since my husband and I ran a server for the longest time. With the death of Spigot and Bukkit though, we have migrated to Massivecraft. I also have a few board games floating around РArkham Horror, Betrayal at the House on the Hill, Forbidden Stars to name a few Рand our friends have plenty of other ones that we play pretty often.

I also used to write a lot, predominantly short stories and background information for books I intended to start someday, up until I met my husband in college. I am not sure what really killed it, engineering classes strengthening the science and mathematics or the happiness. Either way, it is a skill I have regretted shelving for the longest time, although to be honest, I guess I have not put it down entirely. I still write loads of background information for whatever RPG I intend to run, although with a few very recent fiascos, tabletop RPG-ing is probably not in the cards for a while. We will have to wait and see how everything goes, but I might have to start something up because waiting is killing me.

So, with all of the stuff floating around, I can take a crack at writing about a variety of things. I look forward to it, so feel free to leave a comment about what you would like me to explore or elaborate on more. If no one has any preferences, I might just start off with a Warhammer 40k showcase because the Dark Elder Gods know I have way too many models. I may even throw in some pictures of the Husband’s Blood Angels.
